Military Boarding Schools
Military Boarding Schools treat teens with academic difficulties with slight behavioral problems in a military environment with drills, and an educational component.
Military Boot Camps
Military Boot camps are semi-penal institutions that use discipline, military exercises, and rigorous physical training to "change" a defiant troubled teen and supposedly return home a "good kid" who will obey authority, follow rules, and improve behavior at home and school. There is no therapy, no psychological intervention for emotional or behavioral problems. A good setting for kids that need a good wake up call.
Military Schools
Military Schools are typically privately owned and operated prep schools modelled after the United States military based colleges and universities, such as West Point. Nowadays, a military school is both a popular and selective alternative to ordinary schooling. They are popular among young people willing to experience military values and structure, a high-level athletic program and perhaps get a military job in the future.
Residential Treatment Centers
Residential Treatment Centers typically treat troubled teens between 12-17 years old with teen issues such as depression, substance abuse, ADD/ADHD, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, condduct disorder, academic difficulties, and kids that struggle with emotional or behavioral problems. Individual and Group therapy is usually provided with emphasis on treatment and therapy accompanied by academic and schooling programs.
Therapeutic Boarding Schools
Therapeutic Boarding Schools are very similar to residential treatment centers with the only difference being that there is more emphasis on Education with treatment accompanied by therapy. Therapeutic Boarding Schools typically treat troubled teens between 12-17 years old with teen issues that a residential treatment center does. Individual and Group therapy is usually provided with substantial emphasis on Education accompanied by a therapeutic component.
Summer Camps
Summer Camps provide your child with the chance to develop character, learn valuable life skills, make new friends, and discover new interests. Summer camps are not usually catered to troubled teens, however there are times that they can be used to re-direct a child back on the right path if they have not viered off to far. Teens with negative peer association and minor depression would benefit more from a summer camp than a child with defiance.
Wilderness Programs
Wilderness Programs typically deal with kids that are just entering the troubled teens stages. Wilderness Programs are usually short term programs that range from 30-90 days. Wilderness Programs are a good setting for kids that need a good wake up call. Obviously teens that struggle with severe issues that have been going on for a long period of time would need treatment through a Residential Treatment Center of Therapeutic Boarding School.
